Slangkop Lighthouse

If you are a lighthouse freak like my wife, a visit to the Slangkop Lighthouse in Kommetjie, about six minutes drive from the
De Noordhoek Hotel
, is an absolute must. The drive takes you past the new Longbeach Mall, well worth a visit also. Slangkop Lighthouse was imported in pieces (of cast iron) from Britain and inaugurated on 4th March 1919. The light can be seen from 33 miles out to sea. If you’re fit you can climb to the top of the light (130 steps) by paying the Lightkeeper just R15. When you’re staying at the De Noordhoek Hotel a trip to the Slangkop Light is well worth the drive.
