Coming up in late September is the annual Cape Town International Boat Show, which sets sail once again, for a four-day event, running from 24 to 27 September 2009 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, stretching into the V&A Waterfront. Following in the wake of last year’s successful event, organizers this year have added an extra day for local and international boating fanatics to experience the very best in boating, water sports, lifestyle and leisure. The Boat Show offers a full view of things to do in, around and under the water. Whether you’re a seasoned or aspiring boater you’ll receive the entire boating spectrum in just one visit. What’s more is that there’s something to suit any pocket. What better place to stay when visiting the boat show than the delightful de Noordhoek Hotel. The de Noordhoek is located on the southern side of Silvermine and overlooked by the mountain.
The False Bay waters off Fish Hoek offer some of the finest opportunities in the Western Cape for underwater diving. The area from Jaeger’s Walk to Glencairn has been declared a marine reserve. Diving spots include Sunny Cove, located on the southern side of Fish Hoek Bay, and the Quarry, 2 kilometres South of the village. There is an interactive CD-ROM available from information offices in the Southern Peninsula detailing some 48 different dive sites. The waters of False Bay can be crystal clear at times – this is an excellent place to dive and is only a short drive from Noordhoek and the De Noordhoek Hotel.
The Women’s Day Swim forms part of the Cadiz Swim Series — a succession of cold sea swims that take place around the Cape Peninsula, leading up to the Cadiz Freedom Swim in 2010. Relay teams comprising four swimmers, with at least one woman, will take to the cold Atlantic at Camps Bay on Sunday 9 August. Everyone is invited to participate, registration is at 09h00 and the race starts at 10h00. If you’re going to take part in or view this race, what better base than the de Noordhoek Hotel?
