Noordhoek Beach
The best place from which to view Noordhoek Beach is from Chapman’s Peak Drive. As you drive southwards you will see the immense size of this 6km long beach. The beach is extremely popular with walkers, horse riders and, of course, surfers. Towards the southern end of Noordhoek Beach lies the well known ship wreck Kakapo, which ran aground when the captain headed straight for the beach having thought he had rounded Cape Point. The beach has soft white sand to walk on, and views of the bay are quite spectacular. The beach is quite isolated, so be cautious when swimming and rather walk with a group of people when you visit the beach.
Not far from Noordhoek Beach you will find the picturesque Noordhoek Valley, surrounded by the Cape Peninsula National Park, and nestled in the valley is the Noordhoek Farm Village and the De Noordhoek Hotel. The hotel is one of the most outstanding new additions to the Cape, being almost totally eco-friendly. Accommodation has low energy lighting and solar water heating, and the hotel separates waste products for recycling and is energy efficient. The Noordhoek Farm Village is open seven days a week and facilities there include three family restaurants, two country pubs, a children’s playground and a collection of shops and boutiques offering ceramics, wines, antiques, crafts and a beauty salon. The impressive Noordhoek Beach is just five minutes’ drive away, and just a few minutes drive to the East is the village of Fish Hoek with its bayside restaurants.
